Four Pakistani Rangers Killed In Retaliatory Action Of BSF At The Border In J&K

Four Pakistani rangers were killed in a strong retaliatory action of BSF after a jawan of the force was killed in heavy firing from the other side along the International border in J&K's Samba district.

The BSF's retaliatory action came after the home ministry told the armed to force to give a befitting reply to any unprovoked offensive.The BSF's counter offensive forced the Pakintani rangers to wave white flags.

Today's firing from Pakistan, which injured one jawan is the second violation of ceasefire along the international border in 24 hours.

"We have retaliated effectively to the Pakistani firing, in which four Pakistani rangers have been killed (opposite to Regal post) along the IB in Samba sector this evening," Rakesh Sharma, BSF IG of Jammu Frontier told the media. 

He further said that as the Pak rangers suffered casualties, they waved white flags requesting the Indian forces to stop firing so that they can pick the dead bodies up.

"Honoring their request we stopped the firing and allowed them to come to the border line and lift the bodies," he said adding, "firing along the border line has now stopped".

In the morning the rangers targeted a BSF patrol party by starting firing unannounced. This offensive killed one Indian jawan and one other was injured. The deceased has been identified as Constable Sri Ram Gowria, the IG informed.

Earlier the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had asked the BSF to give a befitting reply when the paramilitary force's Director General DK Pathak briefed him about the ongoing situation in J&K frontier.

"The Home Minister asked the DG, BSF to provide a suitable and appropriate reply for any such unprovoked firing," an official statement was released today in Delhi.

Earlier today, the defense minister Manohar Parrikar has told the armed forces to provide the enemy with a reply with "double the force," and they should not hold back.

The BJP might not have achieved - the full majority with 44 seats - what it was claiming before the elections in J&K. But the results are nothing less than a pleasant surprise for the party.  And the actual number (25) that the party got would definitely have matched the party's strategy makers' speculations. 

Now that the results are out, and all the parties are doing their share of negotiations and counter negotiations. The most logical choice would be an alliance between the PDP and BJP, as the numbers don't support the BJP-NC proposition.

BJP president Amit Shah's media outing yesterday gave a hint about its willingness to keep the Congress out of the power in the state at any cost. The congress has been a part of the last two governments in the state; first with the PDP, after that, in the previous government with the NC. 

Two things are have come to light in J&K: the people of Jammu have voted overwhelmingly for the BJP and the people of the Valley have done the same for the PDP. And for the NC and Congress - both have been voted out of the power.

Now the experts say that to respect the mandate of both Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP and the PDP should come together. But there are people who say that both the parties are like water and oil, they can never gel together. BJP will have to keep mum on the article 370 and the conversion and ghar wapsi kind of things, while the PDP will have to avoid its closeness with the separatists and stop taking in a hardline terminology.  

Any solid news will, hopefully, come by today evening.

BJP chief Amit Shah says the party has all the options open as far as the formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir is concerned. This statement of the veteran politician comes after the party could manage 25 seats in the 87 member J&K assembly and has come second to the PDP which obtained 28.

Mr Shah has also congratulated the BJP workers in the both J&K and Jharkhand states for being there and seeing that the party does well in the elections. "2014 was the year of unprecedented electoral successes for the BJP," Shah said.

The think tank of the PDP will be sitting tonight to sketch their future course of action. They will have to choose between Congress and the BJP. The political pundits are of the opinion that the PDP should swallow its pride and ally with the BJP for the sake of the development of the state.

On the other hand the BJP has bagged 38 seats in the 81 member assembly of Jharkhand. With a little bit of political mathematics, it should reach the coveted number 41, which is just 3 steps away at the present moment.

For a state like Jharkhand, which has seen 9 governments in 14 years since its inception in 2000, a stable government is like a magic potion.

Counting of votes has started in the Jammu and Kashmir province of India, where the BJP is trying its utmost to come in power for the first time in the history of independent India.

The early trend suggests that it's a close fight between the BJP and the People's Democratic Party (PDP). To come in power, a party needs to get 44 seats in the 87 member house.

The five phase election that started on 25 November and ended on the 20th of December, saw thousands of police and army personnel deployed in and around the polling stations all around the state.

According to the data provided by the election commission of India, around 65% of the eligible voters exercised their franchises. The politics of the state is dominated by two regional parties - the governing National Conference and the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The former is owned by the Abdulla family and the later by Saeed family.  

The BJP has never been a force to reckon with the muslin dominated Kashmir valley because of its hardline views of the state's relation with the Indian union. But with its thumping win the general elections in May; the BJP is eying a foothold in the valley.

The BJP, in the meanwhile, looks ready to move towards the majority in the 81 seat assembly of the statehood of Jharkhand, where the elections were held at the same time. Early leads tell us that it is already leading in 40 seats, while the main rival JMM is leading in 21 seats.
