The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
has said today that India has sought UN's intervention on the release of 26/11 Mumbai
attack mastermind and LeT commander Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi to make sure that the
terrorist is kept behind the bars.
The party spokesperson GVL
Narasimha Rao said, “India has registered a strong protest with United Nations
regarding the release of Lakhvi by Pakistan. UN intervention has been sought to
ensure that Lakhvi is sent back to jail."
India has requested the UN to
talk to Pakistan on the issue. India has also said that the release of Lakhvi
clearly violates the norms of the global body.
India's Permanent Representative
to the UN Asoke Mukherjee has written a letter to the current Chair of the UN
Sanctions Committee Jim McLay. The letter says that Lakhvi's release orders by
a Pakistani court violates the 1267 UN resolution that deals with designated
entities and individuals that are associated with terror groups including
Al-Qaeda and LeT, wherever located.
Lakhvi along with six others was
set free on 9 April by a Pakistani court. His release has caused uneasiness in
other countries like US, UK, Russia, France, and Germany as well.
