A massive fire in an over-hundred years old housing building
in a densely-populated locality of South Mumbai this evening. The fire injured
four people including fire fighters.
A part of under-construction building collapsed as the
massive fire spread across all its four floors and gulped down the wooden beams.
Gokul Nivas, the affected building, is situated in the
densely populated Kalba Devi area of Mumbai and shelters some residential
apartments and houses some shops and cloth godowns on the floors below.
While trying to douse the fire Chief fire officer Sunil
Nesrikar and two other fire brigade personnel suffered burns, while a couple of
residents were also injured in the fire. All of them have been taken to the
nearby Masina Hospital.
A fire brigade official told the media, "We were
informed about the fire at 4.20 pm and our personnel reached the spot in ten minutes
despite traffic snarls."
Around 17 fire engines and 10 water tankers rushed to the
ground zero.
