The AIADMK matriarch JJayalalithaa is likely to take oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister by next week,
an official party statement has said today.
"Before Jayalalithaa takes
over as the CM, she will go through the judgment to be thorough with it. It is
more than 900 pages long. She is also waiting for the right time before making
any announcement. Most likely, she will become the CM by next week,"
AIADMK leader C R Saraswati said.
Saraswati dismissed allegations
made by opposition parties including DMK and PMT as falsehood; the parties said
that a 'miscalculation' had helped Jayalalithaa get an acquittal in the
disproportionate assets case filed against her.
"The opposition parties
cannot digest the judgment. They were expecting something different because the
DMK wants to come back to power. However, the justice [presiding over the case]
said very clearly - the property values were miscalculated, because property
rates have changed since they were bought"
"Everyone knows,
Jayalalithaa was a very big heroine once. She was charging lakhs those days and
one of the properties named was bought by her mother. She is also a regular tax
payer," she added.
Earlier this week, the KarnatakaHigh Court in a disproportionate assets case acquitted Jayalalithaa, and since
then there is a euphoric atmosphere in the AIADMK camp.
