In his letter, written to Delhi
Police Commissioner BS Bassi on 12 November, Sahshi Throor urged the police
chief that he should take stern action against the officers who are trying to
frame him in the murder of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. The letter is now doing
rounds in the media
Tharoor has accused four Delhi
Police officers of interrogating his domestic help Narayan Singh twice last
month; on November 7 for 16 hours and on November 8 for 14 long hours. On both
the occasions, the guy was badly assaulted by one of the officers.
"Worse, that officer used
the traumatic physical assault to try and intimidate Narayan into 'confessing'
that he and I murdered my wife," the former minister and current Congress
MP from Thiruvananthapuram said.
He also mentioned that he let the
Police Chief know about his concerns. "As you graciously agreed, such
conduct is completely unacceptable and illegal. It also amounts to the use of
physical coercion in the attempt to frame an innocent man. I would request you
to take immediate and appropriate action against such unlawful misconduct of
the officer concerned," he wrote.
Further in the letter he wrote,
"My staff and I have always made ourselves available for any kind of
inquiry and investigation but the recent behavior of the officers towards my
staff is a matter of serious concern to any law abiding citizen. Please look
into the matter personally and ensure that the unvarnished truth comes out in
this case."
The politician has accepted that
the he had complete trust in Delhi police and will cooperate with the
investigation to make sure the timely completion of the case.
The written communication became
public a day after the announcement by the Delhi Police that Pushkar did not
die a natural death, she was poisoned. The Police Commissioner informed the
media that this was the conclusion drawn from the medical report issued by
AIIMS, which conducted the post-mortem of Pushkar.
Sunanda Pushkar, 52, was found
dead in a suspicious condition in a seven star hotel room on January 17 last
year. Tharoor was the minister in the UPA government, his proximity with the
Gandhi family is also not a secret.
