Security has been tightened up
after an intelligence alert indicating a possible hijack of flights going to Afghanistan.
The CISF, which looks after the security at the IGI has been asked to keep a
strict vigil at every nook and corner of the airport. Delhi Police, which looks
after the outer premises of the airport, has also been sent on high alert.
Intelligence agencies had given
warning about a possible hijack by the terrorists of one on the flights going
to Kabul, Afghanistan. The intelligence input specified that Air India flights
might be the most possible victim.
An Air India spokesman said that
security agencies like the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) are also
looking into the issue.
It was in the year 1999 that
India witnessed a hijack of Indian Airlines flight IC 814. After hovering
around here and there, that flight was taken to Kandahar, Afghanistan. The
terrorists asked for the release of three terrorists in return of the
passengers. India has to give in to the demands of the terrorists, and Maulana
Masood Azhar, along with two other terror agents, was released.
