Indian Space Research Organization
(ISRO) has launched its heaviest ever rocket - Geo-Synchronous Satellite Launch
Vehicle Mark III. This mission will further boost India's ambition of sending
astronauts to space.
GSLV Mk III, launched from
Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, is 42.4 meters tall and a weighs 630 tonne. The
project cost is estimated to be around 160 crores.
The motive behind the launch of
GSLV Mk III is to become independent in sending heavy communication satellites
like INSAT -4, which weigh somewhere between 4000 to 5000 KG, to the space. Now India can claim its place
in the multi-dollar market.
The space agency has sought
around 12500 crore rupees for its human space flight mission. When and if it happens,
India will become the fourth country in the world to have the technology to
send humans into space. Until now, Russia, the US and China were the only three
countries to have such a technology.
